Now that whot has heroically finished the xserver-1.7 release, we're
nearing the finish line for the X11R7.5 release.
I've taken the modules.txt list from the 7.4 katamari and compared to
the output of my announcement scraper script and git status scripts
to come up with the following list of what I think should be the
module versions for the 7.5 katamari - there's a lot that need releases
still, but most just need to go through the mechanics of tagging and
tarring a stably-versioned release tarball, which several of us are
working through. (There's a bunch of non-katamari modules that also
need releases for compatibility with the new katamari that aren't listed
here, but aren't being forgotten.)
I am proposing a few changes to the set of modules designated as part
of the X11R7.x releases:
Added:
bdftopcf - seems to have been a 7.4 oversight, as it's needed by
all the bitmap font modules
dri2proto - new extension required by the xserver
Removed:
appres - all the other Xt/Xresources utilities are already out
bitmap - a Xaw-based XBM bitmap editor is not a core application
(use the gimp if you really want to edit XBM images)
evieext - no longer used/supported by xserver
font-bitstream-speedo - libXfont dropped speedo support a while ago
xf86-video-impact, xf86-video-sunbw2, xf86-video-vermilion - these
drivers seem to be abandoned, not even getting ABI compatibility fixes
xf86dga - a test/demo app for an extension we're trying to remove is
not a core application
xsetmode - functionality replaced by xinput's set-mode option
I'm uncertain about xf86-video-openchrome - it's not had a new release since
last year, so I don't know if it's compatible with the Xorg ABI changes, but
it was a maintained driver.
If anyone disagrees with these, or the module versions listed as being
a stable, X11R7.5-compatible version that should be included in the katamari,
now is the time to speak, as at the rate we're going, we should have the
X11R7.5 release finished by this time next week.
