RS690M is the integrated chipset. FireMV 2200 (aka RV280) is the PCI add-on card. Since I am aiming for triple-head, eventually I need both devices. If I configure the BIOS so that the external graphics (rv280) is primary, the RS690M completely disappears - even from lspci. If I configure the integrated chipset (rs690m) to be primary, both cards are visible and usable, so this is what I do. Since the integrated RS690M already works properly (both with normal monitors, and with the flaky one with CustomEDID), I am now testing the external rv280 card. To do this, I have specified the PCI ID in the X config (BusID "PCI:3:6:0"), so I am using this card. The X log confirms this: "(--) RADEON(0): Chipset: "ATI FireMV 2200 (PCI)" (ChipID = 0x5965)" Also, when things works (ie. not doing CustomEDID testing), the monitors connected to the sockets of the external card are activated properly. * * * So, I think I am running on the right Radeon. (Please do correct me if I am wrong.)
