You mean why are there fewer? Because we decided not all those apps
needed to be maintained as part of the core window system - most are
still available for those who want to use them, but if you're just
trying to build a basic window system, they're probably not that
interesting to you. Some are just plain obsolete, others have
better replacements available in most modern desktop environments.
