For the record, hosteurope.de is one of the longest running provider I know in Europe, not exactly the cheapest, and you get a rented server with hardware raid for EUR 59 per month. Given my experience 1 EUR is approx. equal with 1 US$ in the computer business (yes, it's not the exchange rate), but even if you take the direct exchange rate this is easily managable for $100 per month. And I didn't exactly search for long. Haven't looked for bandwidth flatrates yet, though. And of course, I don't know the hardware setup we have. We probably have more RAM and more disk space. That said, I'm perfectly fine with the current situation. I just wanted to know what we're paying this for. > Of course, shifting away from dedicated servers to an alternate > strategy is certainly something that may well be worth exploring, > for reasons beyond cost. What alternative strategy would that be? I'm always interested, but I doubt anybody has the resources to look into anything groundshaking new. Besides, we have a number of projects relying on freedesktop.org. > But I just wanted to say that the current spending looks quite > reasonable to me.
