I posted to this list earlier about not getting color in 8 bit depth using the intel driver. After some assistance I was able to get 8 bit color to show in color. However, now the backing store does not seem to work, so the application I am attempting to run leaves blank areas on the display whenever a menu or other window covers that area. xdpyinfo does report that the backing store is on.
I am currently using an Nvidia GeForce card for graphics, though I have verified that the embedded intel card does work properly with the vesa driver. The vesa driver was not originally working until I set the nomodeset kernel option. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Output of uname -a -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Linux xterm1 2.6.38.6-26.rc1.fc15.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon May 9 20:45:15 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Output of xdpyinfo: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- name of display: 192.168.1.1:0.0 version number: 11.0 vendor string: Fedora Project vendor release number: 11001000 maximum request size: 16777212 bytes motion buffer size: 256 bitmap unit, bit order, padding: 32, LSBFirst, 32 image byte order: LSBFirst number of supported pixmap formats: 7 supported pixmap formats: depth 1, bits_per_pixel 1, scanline_pad 32 depth 4, bits_per_pixel 8, scanline_pad 32 depth 8, bits_per_pixel 8, scanline_pad 32 depth 15, bits_per_pixel 16, scanline_pad 32 depth 16, bits_per_pixel 16, scanline_pad 32 depth 24, bits_per_pixel 32, scanline_pad 32 depth 32, bits_per_pixel 32, scanline_pad 32 keycode range: minimum 8, maximum 255 focus: PointerRoot number of extensions: 26 BIG-REQUESTS DAMAGE DOUBLE-BUFFER DPMS DRI2 GLX Generic Event Extension MIT-SCREEN-SAVER MIT-SHM RANDR RECORD RENDER SGI-GLX SHAPE SYNC X-Resource XC-MISC XFIXES XFree86-DGA XFree86-VidModeExtension XINERAMA XInputExtension XKEYBOARD XTEST XVideo XVideo-MotionCompensation default screen number: 0 number of screens: 1 screen #0: dimensions: 1600x1200 pixels (411x311 millimeters) resolution: 99x98 dots per inch depths (7): 8, 1, 4, 15, 16, 24, 32 root window id: 0xde depth of root window: 8 planes number of colormaps: minimum 1, maximum 1 default colormap: 0x20 default number of colormap cells: 256 preallocated pixels: black 0, white 1 options: backing-store YES, save-unders NO largest cursor: 1600x1200 current input event mask: 0x0 number of visuals: 6 default visual id: 0x21 visual: visual id: 0x21 class: PseudoColor depth: 8 planes available colormap entries: 256 red, green, blue masks: 0x0, 0x0, 0x0 significant bits in color specification: 8 bits visual: visual id: 0x22 class: GrayScale depth: 8 planes available colormap entries: 256 red, green, blue masks: 0x0, 0x0, 0x0 significant bits in color specification: 8 bits visual: visual id: 0x23 class: StaticColor depth: 8 planes available colormap entries: 256 red, green, blue masks: 0x7, 0x38, 0xc0 significant bits in color specification: 8 bits visual: visual id: 0x24 class: TrueColor depth: 8 planes available colormap entries: 8 per subfield red, green, blue masks: 0x7, 0x38, 0xc0 significant bits in color specification: 8 bits visual: visual id: 0x25 class: DirectColor depth: 8 planes available colormap entries: 8 per subfield red, green, blue masks: 0x7, 0x38, 0xc0 significant bits in color specification: 8 bits visual: visual id: 0x26 class: StaticGray depth: 8 planes available colormap entries: 256 red, green, blue masks: 0x0, 0x0, 0x0 significant bits in color specification: 8 bits ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Contents of /etc/X11/xorg.conf: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "X.org Configured" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 Screen 1 "Screen1" RightOf "Screen0" Screen 2 "Screen2" RightOf "Screen1" Screen 3 "Screen3" RightOf "Screen2" InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer" InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" EndSection Section "Files" ModulePath "/usr/lib64/xorg/modules" FontPath "catalogue:/etc/X11/fontpath.d" FontPath "built-ins" FontPath "tcp/192.168.1.56:7000" FontPath "tcp/192.168.1.76:7000" EndSection Section "Module" Load "dri" Load "record" Load "dri2" Load "glx" Load "dbe" Load "extmod" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "auto" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5 6 7" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "Monitor Vendor" ModelName "Monitor Model" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor1" VendorName "Monitor Vendor" ModelName "Monitor Model" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor2" VendorName "Monitor Vendor" ModelName "Monitor Model" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor3" VendorName "Monitor Vendor" ModelName "Monitor Model" EndSection Section "Device" ### Available Driver options are:- ### Values: <i>: integer, <f>: float, <bool>: "True"/"False", ### <string>: "String", <freq>: "<f> Hz/kHz/MHz", ### <percent>: "<f>%" ### [arg]: arg optional #Option "SWcursor" # I can get 8 bit color to work properly, however the backing store option is ignored or doesn't work. Does anyone have any ideas? _______________________________________________ xorg@lists.freedesktop.org: X.Org support Archives: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg Info: http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/xorg Your subscription address: arch...@mail-archive.com
