thank a lot indeed for your kind reply.

Some explanations are needed.

It seems that X could set numlock and capslock keyboard led on and off (Not so clearly explained in man pages, to say the plain truth, until now I haven't yet figured out how to turn led on and off) but even if xset q get numlock and capslock status it seems not able, looking at man page, to turn numlock and capslock on.

Have I understood well?

Yes, xset can control the LEDs, but not the keyboard state.
