Well, there is no problem with restarting the Xserver anymore. Thanks to
the nvidia team!

But, on my i8k the Xserver crashes when switching back to VT7 where the
Xserver is running on. It dies with the message:

  (WW) Open APM failed
  (II) NVIDIA(0): No MetaMode found for mode "1280x960"
  (II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode "1280x960"
  (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failes to allocate the cursor image context DMA
  Fatal server error:
  Caught signal 11. Server aborting

Anyone having an idea? I use the framebuffer console with 1280x960@16 bpp
and started the server in 16bpp.


Further observations from David Megginson at the linux-dell-laptops list:
