"x2x" has problems with Xinerama (in fact, it doesn't work). As I
understand, it uses XTEST extension, and that is not Xinerama-aware (or at
least is used by x2x in non-Xinerama-aware fashion). The effect is that
the pointer on "-west" or "-east" display is limited to the physical
screen where it first appeared.
Fixing this and some other x2x bugs is in my TODO list, but not
sure when I'll have time for it. Currently x2x is maintained only by
Debian, so it may be worth contacting their team (see
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?pkg=x2x&archive=no).
Additionally, x2x has fancy interference with fvwm's
EdgeResistance, since both proggies detect cases when the pointer is on
the edge of the screen to do their work.
As to Matrox G450 cards: I have both G450AGP and G450PCI, and
there are two problems when running them with overlay and in Xinerama
mode.
First, to drive non-primary G450 one has to use HAL submodule
(for some strange reason non-primary cards simply doesn't display even
with Matrox's mga_drv.o but without mga_hal_drv.o). But HAL doesn't
support overlay.
Second, as opposed to separate cards (e.g. Millenium II), when in
overlay mode, the second head makes TrueColor a default visual (while
advertising PseudoColor as such). So, Xinerama fails with a message like
"root window depths differ". Without second head (e.g. G450 +
2xMilleniumII) 24+8bpp work fine with Xinerama. (Well, that was tested
under 4.0.3 with Matrox's beta_1_2_0/mga_drv.o; current versions can have
this fixed).
BTW, Sidik, can you please go into more detail regarding
Matrox<->1600SW digital<->digital converter? What's the need in
converter if both support DVI?
P.S. For those who are interested, tomorrow I'll post my experience of
running G450AGP and G450PCI together.
