  I believe any card that was manufacturated from around 1994 should be
at least vesa 1.2.

  You may which to use the vesa driver to support also vesa 1.2 cards, or
build Xvesa, from the "TinyX" sources, for the installer.

  The vesa driver and Xvesa will run on a larger amount of computers. In some
very special cases, only fbdev servers will work. But to be really safe, you
should also think about cases where only a vga 16 colors will work, and even
some cases where only plain text modes would.

  I am planning to add the interface for it. It won't make running xawtv
(or any other such program) faster, but would provide the extension.
