I have an ASUS A7A266 motherboard with the AliMagick1 chip set and I cannot get it to
work reliably with xawtv. If xawtv is correctly set up, when run it displays a window
and works just fine for a short time (one to thirty seconds) and then the whole
computer freezes so hard that the reset button is required. (Sound keeps working fine
though. :-/ )
This has been tested with the following components in various combinations all with
the same result.
display cards: nVidia GForce2 DDR
ATI Radeon VE 32 DDR
tuner cards: Turbo TV BT848
TV Excel BT878
sound card: AOpen AW744 Pro
It is currently set up with linux kernel 2.4.9 and XFree86 4.1 (Debian "Woody") and it
makes no difference whether I use dga or xv for the display. Before I compiled xawtv
locally (version 3.62), using 'xawtv -nodga -xv' did not crash the computer, but
produced just a black window. Getting xv to work resulted in an image followed by a
frozen computer, same as for dga. The same thing happens with or without DRI enabled
in X and the kernel.
xawtv has worked fine for me in four other linux systems over the last three years, on
various motherboards. This motherboard works perfectly in every other respect.
Taking out the sound card does not prevent the problem, nor does setting interrupts in
various combinations in the BIOS.
Surely it has to be the motherboard (I'm using the latest BIOS), but before I start
hassling ASUS, has anyone else got xawtv to work with this motherboard, or suffered a
similar problem???
