The trick is that when you request 24bits it is actually using 32 for each
pixel. What the driver means is that each field (R, G, B) is only using 8
bit.

and that's what the drivers use. Good think we don't have screen depth
race.. Imagine cards which support 64bpp by requiring that two 32bpp
pixels be always written at once !
