I had almost the same problem with an i810 with version 3.121 of xc/programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/common/xf86Events.c this file was current from 1st to 28th October. There is also a different fix to this problem, specifically for the i830, in i830_driver.c dated 18/10/2001. I don't know how the two fixes interact (they work in different ways, and apply both may not help). Sorry you caught XFree86 at an unstable moment. -- Dr. Andrew C.
