As I recall, Michael Clark's binary worked for Mario, but not for me (Mark), using what appeared to be the same Dell Inspiron 4100. I suspect that the key to this is that not all laptops of the same model are exactly the same. I suspect that they differ in things like the LCD panel from country to country. eg Mario was in .at (?Austria?), Michael is US, me in the UK and you in Germany. The key to this different was shown in Mario's XFree86 output - his panel was detected by Michael's binary whereas mine was not. Others reported success by simply forcing the panel size with the patch posted to this group. My feeling was that this just happen to result in panel timings which worked with their panel. But this didn't work for me or John Knottenbelt > over the RedHat 7.2 Xfree I also only get a white screen. > > To add to the confusion: After the first initial Install on the new laptop X > worked just fine!!! and I used it for a day or so. Yes, I've looked here too, but the BIOS seems sparse on options! > Windows ME works fine. Is there a way that changes in configuration under ME > could carry over? I don't think so. > Any ideas? I'm pleases to report that the current CVS tree (say at 1.30am GMT, 15 Nov) works a treat for me. I simply do, "XFree86 -configure", then start the server with the new config file and I'm up and running with the ATI driver. I then go back and set the default colour depth and mouse options, but nothing more. This is the first time that I've seen an X display on my laptop panel (as the VESA drive never worked for me on the panel - only on an external monitor) I'd like to thank Andy Sparrow for alerting me to the fact that the CVS had been updated. Cheers Mark PS: Anyone got anything better than 48KHz playback only on their audio? PPS: Anyone had any luck with the PCTel Modem? _______________________________________________ Xpert mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xpert
