At work, we have two alpha machines (DS10 with 466 or 617MHz processor) running linux redhat 7.1 for alpha. We experience from time to time crashes of the X server. The server is completely unresponsive and the only way to continue is to reboot the machine remotely.
In the logs, we found the following messages repeated a large number of times (with different numbers): Nov 21 10:32:06 wu kernel: X(742): unaligned trap at 0000000120b7b258: 00000001217c57fa 28 1 Nov 21 10:32:06 wu kernel: X(742): unaligned trap at 0000000120b7b258: 00000001217c5eae 28 1 Nov 21 10:32:06 wu kernel: X(742): unaligned trap at 0000000120b7b258: 00000001217c6562 28 1 Nov 21 10:32:06 wu kernel: X(742): unaligned trap at 0000000120b7b258: 00000001217c6c16 28 1 I don't know if this can be the reason, but for the moment it's the only strange thing I can find in the logs. For information: X server version: 4.0.3 kernel version: 2.4.9-12 Graphic card: Permedia 2 Any suggestion? Thanks.
