If you have to kill the server, it hasn't crashed - it's stuck someplace.
Which, of course, shouldn't happen. If the server segfaulted it would
have gone through its shutdown code, and most of the time (if it didn't
get hosed too badly by the wayward code that cause the segfault) it
would restore the console itself. Killing the server will never restore
the console.
Hangs on Neomagic are most likely due to flaky acceleration or
maybe a power management problem. If the Geforce card is using
NVIDIA's drivers and you have a 760MP chipset and you have AGP
enabled, a hang is expected eventually because there are bugs
in both AGPGART and NVGART with respect to that chipset. You
have to disable AGP to get it to work reliably at the moment.
