hi,
yesterday i upgrade my system frome suse 6.4 to
suse 7.3. the old suse 6.4 was using the xfree86 version 3. there i had no
problems to use my (old) monitor. i changed the file /etc/X11/XF86Config (insert
a new modeline...).
now the new version from suse7.3 is using the
xfree86 version 4. now my problems start:
- at may first configuration (with an normal
monitor) with sax2, i can`t choose my video card (diamond stealth 64
(version3)). thats why i changed standard vga.
- after first configuartion, i edit the
XF86Conig-file. i insert the modeline i used with the old xserver, but it
doesn`t work :-(
- as first i got the idea too go back to the old
XFree86 Version 3...but i don`t no how....cause in the yast-configuration i
can`t find a possibility too delete the xfree version 4 packages and install the
version 3 packages.
- then i thought, that it is possible to configure
the version 3 x-server with sax (NOT sax2!!!). is i promped sax at a
commandline, i got a warning-message, that i configure now an old version 3, but
if i suggest, sax(1) don`t start... :-(
so, what can i do?
i think the easiest way is go back to the old XFree
version 3. but how can i do that?
or does anybody know a way, to "tell" the new XFree
version 4 , that i use this videocard (diamond stealth 64)?
