Hi Mihnea, If your card isn't supported yet then possibly the best bet is to use the 'Frame Buffer' facility in Linux. It asks the card's BIOS to change resolution. I've successfully got 1024x768 or better out of this on pesky laptops. Look for the 'Framebuffer HOWTO'.
