Hello. I'm not familiar with mailman, but heres my suggestion for the virus problem.
Use Amavis (http://www.amavis.org/) and some virus scanner that functions in your platform. For example FSAV for linux if you are using Linux or *BSD. Amavis works as an interface between the mailserver and virus scanner, and allows you automatically filter out all virus infected emails.
