Finally gave up and put myself on another mailing list.. My weakest area
in Linux has always been X .. This one has me stumped..
Running a Thin Client set up..
The Clients load a common kernel with frambuffer support and devfs,
(Debian minimal install) that calls the server via the standard X -query
<servername> and the server is running Slackware 8.0 without devfs

Now when the client boots up, the logfiles show that the Framebufffer
device comes up in TRUECOLOR, and all default depths are specified as
16.. But the xdm comes up in 8 bit, and ugly 8 bit to boot. Log in, and
when I get X it is also in 8 bit. But the strange thing is when I do an
xwininfo it says I am in TRUECOLOR..

Everything seems to say I have 16 bit color but it is obvious I am not..

I need someone to hold my hand here.. I can send as many logs or
configuration files as needed..

It probably is my lack of fundamental understanding on how/where
cofigurations are set in this environment.. ie when I do an X -query
<servername> Shouldn't all settings by specified only in the thin
client's /etc/X11?

Hate to sound like a newbie after all these years, but I am from the old
command line school and finally forced to deal with graphical dektop
environments in complex setups.
