I've recently had occasion to use X on a system built around the National Semiconductor Geode processor and Cyrix CS5530 companion chip. So far (see my notes at <http://www.larwe.com/technical/geode_linux.html>) I have only got XFree 3.3.6 working on this hardware so far, using the SVGA server with chipset "mediagx".
I'm not sure exactly what the MediaGX chipset offered, but the Geode/CS5530 combination seems to be its modern cousin, and it's very popular in single-board computers and some Internet appliances. So it would be useful to get the latest X versions working with it. The current release (not CVS) doesn't find the hardware, and I think this is because it expects the ISA version (MediaGX ancestor), not the PCI version. Is anyone else known to be working on this project right now? I have taken a brief look at the sourcecode but haven't got anything working yet. I think it should be a fairly simple modification, since the old 3.3.6 code for MediaGX works with the new hardware out-of-box. I don't want to duplicate anyone else's efforts on this though. -- Lewin A.R.W. Edwards Embedded Engineer, Digi-Frame Inc.
