Many drivers have Rotate options. Eg, from the "nv" driver man
page:
Option "Rotate" "CW"
Option "Rotate" "CCW"
Rotate the display clockwise or counterclockwise.
This mode is unaccelerated. Default: no rotation.
Last I checked, the i810 didn't support this, however.
