That's fair enough too. Question is, is there anything in the Debian XFree86 patches that would disturb a video driver module, such as the SiS one, that was compiled outside the deb tree, or compiled in the deb tree, but used outside of it (on a non-deb version)? I'm mainly guessing that it isn't much of a difference, however I could see possible problems if there has been structural changes to functions that the driver may rely on, though then the driver would have been patched anyway, and I've not noticed any patches that apply to the SiS driver specifically in the .src.deb's (based on 4.1.0-6 that is - haven't had a chance to work on it lately). When I created the binary module with the hacks around the mode setting calls, I actually compiled this using the debian 4.1.0-6 source deb's and the deb make process. I'm hoping to check out the latest CVS, backport the changes to the 4.1 stuff (co-operating with Thomas) and then make up 4.1.0 deb's using the standard deb make process and the latest .src.deb, with the patch applied. This is partially to mirror the work done already by Thomas Winischhofer, and with any luck to end up with working .deb's so I can have automated installs on these damn infuriating machines. Wether or not it makes it into the deb tree isn't too much of a worry for me, though of course, it would be nice. As always, that's your call. I can always rebuild the thing once the .src.deb is available. *grin* Stuart Young - [EMAIL PROTECTED] (aka Cefiar) - [EMAIL PROTECTED] [All opinions expressed in the above message are my] [own and not necessarily the views of my employer..] _______________________________________________ Xpert mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xpert
