Hi,

I have bought a Toshiba 3000-X4 laptop, equipped with an intel 830MG
chipset. I've had a hard time getting the X-server working. Now it's ok in
1024x768, 16bits. (using 2.4.16 kernel and latest 4.1.99.1 XFree)

This mail is only to tell this :

When launching the X-server with startx from the default text mode, it is
known that one gets a sort of blank screen if one tries to come back to
text mode. But linux is not down, and one can make a ctrl-alt-del to
reboot.

But if one puts the vga=0x317 command in the lilo.conf (i.e. forcing the
computer to VGA 1024x768 16 bits in text mode) one can come back to text
mode. The only remaining problem is that the X-server is killed. But you
can restart it anyway.

Notice that with some other resolutions (vga=0x301 for example) it is now
impossible to launch the X-server at all !

This may be helpful to people fed up with non-stop ctrl-alt-del using :-)

Sbastien Dusuel.
