I saw one of the new SIS 315 based video cards on sale online, and it had
128MB of video ram, which immediately drew the mirth of me and my coworker
who were looking at it. Who would need that much ram for a video card who
wasn't doing professional 3D, and if you're doing professional 3d, you're
probably not going to get an SiS 315. (it's not there yet).

But then i got thinking about it. I have a voodoo3 with 16MB of ram, and
when i run at 1600x1200x16 in linux, that doesn't leave a lot of space
left over for textures. And what about 2D? pixmap cache, etc..? how
much ram does your average desktop really need ot make optimal use of a
pixmap cache for 2D, and still have enough left over to hold an incredibly
high number of hi-res textures for?

Just a curious question from someone with only a cursury knowledge of
video technology....
