I've been using XFree86 from CVS since I installed my ATI Radeon VE. While the main ATI Radeon line was supported in XFree86 4.1.0, proper support for the dual-head ATI Radeon VE was not in that release. I have been following CVS, infrequently updating to the latest tag over my slow modem connection, and I have to say the tree tagged xf-4_1_99_2 is excellent.
The following annoyances I've found have been fixed in this release: -my cursor would "stick" when it was within 1 or 2 pixels of the left side of the screen (and would reappear normally immediatly when I moved off of that side of the screen) -I didn't need to mangle my site.cf / linux.cf files with the -fno-merge-contants to compile this version, which was a real relief. -DRM started working! Very very cool. My computer is a Celron 433 with 192 megs of RAM running KDE2.2.1 under RedHat 7.2. I'd like to eventually express my gratitude by eventually providing code contributions. Could anyone give me a pointer or a link to a good, recent XFree86 development HOWTO/ getting started documentation? In the mean time, thank you developers for an excellent prelude to a great 4.2.0 release.
