Well, I don't know about 24bit color but the other problem seems like Sun
xserver is initializing some registers which are bogus otherwise. Do you
know whether it is possible to access cards registers directly on Sun ?
(in Linux one can mmap /dev/mem and then talk to the card via its PCI
apertures). If yes, try adapting hw_script (http://volodya-project.sf.net/)
so you can record register settings. The idea is to record them after
Sun's xserver setup everything and then restore them before starting
XFree86 xserver. I don't know what cg14 is - but if it uses ATI's chips I
can help you to identify critical registers..
