Mine reports:
(II) I810(0): DPMS capabilities: StandBy Suspend Off; RGB/Color Display

So I *think* that means that you can do
        xset dpms force off
but not
        xset dpms force standby
or
        xset dpms force suspend

Since a flat panel comes back very quickly when power is restored,
there may be no need for your monitor to implement standby and suspend.
