It looks like this is a problem with the Toshiba keyboard and X.

It happens in both XFree 4.0.3 that ships with RedHat 7.1 and in Xfree 4.1.x installed
in Windows 200 with cygwin.

This seems to suggest to me that XFree86 is not reading the information from the
keyboard correctly. NOTE: I have never been able to produce this problem outside X.
(ie. in both the Linux and cygwin versions of bash).

This really illustrates why Linux will never make it the corporate mainstream IMHO.
Toshiba are the largest supplier of laptops in the world and companies buy them for
that reason. It is also not helped by the fact that Toshiba themselves are a bunch of
#$%@!^% and deliberately set out to be an MS only hardware platform.

Basically anyone wanting to run Linux seriously should stay away from Toshiba laptops.
By comparison for example there are a number of references re: people getting Linux to
run satisfactorily on an IBM T23. I suggested that my company look at IBM's but they
had basically made their mind to get the Toshiba Tecra 9000.

Well it works fine on Windows and also outside of X so I don't know how you draw the
conclusion that it is a hardware bug. More likely the hardware conforming to some spec
that isn't handled by XFree. Why does XFree use it's own keyboard code anyway ?

There have been reference to an old Satelite with this problem and someone wrote a
patch for the keyboard driver used by the kernel. BUT it only happens in X !!!!! Can
someone explain why ?
