That Matrox card has a jumper (a slider IIRC) which is used to disable VGA
and make it into a secondary card; I don't think my motherboard cared,
but it might matter for a motherboard with onboard video.

Try 4.10, CVS or wait for 4.2.0. I think things have changed a little
since 4.0.3.

I think you should be able to get dual head on these cards without fbdev
(although it may work perfectly well with fbdev).
