Hi all,
I've been having trouble getting X to work on my Dell Latitude C400 which uses the Intel i830 chipset. I want to run in 1024x768x24 mode but can't seem to get higher than 640x480x8. I haven't built X before so I've been trying to avoid that if I can. Apparently some people have had luck with the vesa driver but I've had some trouble with it. After some discussions on the newbie list, I am still in need so I thought I would come to the Xpert list. I've included my XF86Config-4 file and the log that is dumped during startup to a successful 640x480 resolution. If this isn't possible, I'll go build the -current code and try to get the i830 support in there going but I'd like to spend a bit of time getting this to go. Trouble is, it will only startup in 640x480 mode. When I look at the startup log, it appears to be probing lots of different modes, including a couple of 1024x768 modes, which is what my LCD supports. Is there a way to force the VESA driver to come up using a particular mode? It looks like its picking up the 640x480 due to a default hardware probe. Thanks, FM Frank W. Miller
