I too have a Toshiba laptop with a CyberbladeXPAi1 graphics chip. I
have attempted communications with both Trident and Toshiba WRT to the
problems the XFree86 people are having developing a driver without good
technical documentation. Yesterday I responded to a survey from Toshiba
about my satisfaction with my purchase and use of my 1805-274.

I said I was satisfied with the vendor, but unhappy with the laptop
because of these driver problems. I disclosed that I am a Linux user
and that the absence of a good open source XFree driver I could not
recommend purchase of a Toshiba laptop to my friends. On the Xpert
mailing list I have told readers that they should stay away from Toshiba
laptops, and I would extend the warning to include ANY laptop or other
computer that incorporates the Trident Cyberblade chip.

I heard nothing from these attempts to communicate with Trident or
Toshiba, except a redirection of my initial attempt to communicate with
Toshiba. In other words I have heard nothing of substance from either
company.

I will freely admit that if these driver issues were resolved so that
the information that would allow the development of an accelerated
XFree86 driver were available, I would be happy to reccommend Toshiba
laptops to one and all.

Until then, caveat emptor.
