Hello all,

I've read the trident(4x) man page and found the SWCursor option. I
turned it on and now the mouse pointer is working fine!

Kevin, I think this should work for you too. What did you really do?
Just insert the line

  Option "SWCursor" "On"

inside the Section "Device" of your XF86Config-4 file. And make sure the
file you edit is the same used by the XServer. In my system, the
server log is written to the /var/log/XFree86.0.log. Take a look at the
initial lines of this file to confirm. Maybe it's reading another file.

BTW, maybe it helps to track the problem down. When I use HWCursor,
these lines keep appearing in (and inflating the) log file:

(II) TRIDENT(0): vgaHWGetIOBase: hwp->IOBase is 0x03d0, hwp->PIOOffset
is 0x0000
(II) TRIDENT(0): vgaHWGetIOBase: hwp->IOBase is 0x03d0, hwp->PIOOffset
is 0x0000
(II) TRIDENT(0): vgaHWGetIOBase: hwp->IOBase is 0x03d0, hwp->PIOOffset
is 0x0000

That's it. Thanks to all that helped me!

cheers,
