Tony, I have the same machine, and the same problem. 3d performance is very poor .. I think due to Trident not releasing the specs for the chipset to the people who need it (like Alan, who I believe maintains the Trident driver code) and, more importantly, very poor 3d performance from the chipset in the first place.
