Dunno about the tnt2. I once had a Hitachi fixed frequency monitor
atteched to a nvidia riva 128 based card. Worked like a charm. I can't
think of any reasons why you shouldn't be able use the monitor on the
tnt2, but I could be wrong.

That's were the problems arise. The bios normally initializes the gfx chip
to display standard vga, which often isn't what highend sun monitors
displays. So until you reprogram the gfx chip your monitors display  is
going to be garbled. Either waiting for X to start or enabling
framebuffer support in linux (if you need to see linux startup msg) will
work.

One last thing to consider is powermangement. You need to make sure that
the converter cable will work with the monitor in that regard (so that the
monitor get the "wake up" clue)
