thanks, /mtr Begin forwarded message: Date: Mon, 25 Feb 2002 23:52:35 -0800 From: "Marshall Rose" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Newbie]thinkpad a20p / netbsd 1.5.2 / xfree 4.1.0 (r128 driver) stability problems hi. i'm getting random hard crashes on my thinkpad a20p when i'm running X. i tried running 4.2.0 for a while, but it was crashing about every 30 minutes. the netbsd gurus said to go to 4.1.0, so... 4.1.0 crashes about every other day. it's a hard crash, the screen goes blank and then up comes the thinkpad welcome screen, followed by a 15 minute fsck extravaganza... i've been running netbsd 1.5 on other systems (w/o X) and it's rock solid. attached are the XF86Config and XFree86.0.log files. (i started with the XF86Config file from http://www.zhlive.ch/XF86Config.402) here's the rest of the info: i'm running XFree86 4.1.0 for netbsd 1.5 from the xfree86.org site. attached to the thinkpad i have an nec multisync lcd 2010 ("Monitor1"). i've also got a usb keyboard and usb mouse. the one thing that's sort of odd is that when i type startx -- -layout external the external monitor goes dark and the thinkpad's screen comes on. i then have to F7-cycle three times to get it back to external on/thinkpad-screen off... maybe my definition for the NEC is the problem. as usual, the problem is intermittent, and not consistenly reproducible (unless i haven't saved my files in emacs). any help is appreciated. thanks! /mtr
