I just copy a ext2 file system into /dev/ram0 and boot with ram0 as root.
I will try to use another type of fs.

What RAM fs do you use? Does it support the UNIX sockets in /tmp, for
example? I suspect that or other subtle differences in semantics or
features could make the difference.
