Hi,

I've just installed FreeBSD 4.5 on my Thinkpad X21. Works great, cvsup'ed
to the RELENG_4_5 branch, all ok. I then compiled and installed XFree86
4.2 from the ports (using the meta XFree86-4 port). X configured ok,
startx works, but xdm won't start. Actually, it starts the X server, but
doesn't display, then kills the X server and starts again.

Running xdm in debug mode says:

Before XOpenDisplay(:0)
AUDIT: Sun Mar 31 19:02:37 2002: 188 X: client 1 rejected from local host
Auth name: MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 ID: -1
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key
After XOpenDisplay(:0)
OpenDisplay failed 0 (Undefined error: 0) on ":0"
waiting for server to start 0 display manager
caught SIGUSR1

This is a clean install. Shouldn't it work out of the box?

Thanks, Sven
