I'm running kernel version 2.4.9 with various Red Hat patches (rpm
version: 2.4.9-21).

Did you try running "xvidtune -next" and then "atitvout"?  Are you
sure it is using both video modes, the 1024x480 and 1024x768 one?  You
may be able to tell by inspecting the output of the X server.

By the way, it is vital that you use the "crt_screen" option, because
otherwise it will reject the 1024x768 mode as being too big for the
built-in LCD panel.  If that happens, then the "xvidtune -next" step
won't have any effect.

If you need more help, I suggest responding not just to me but also to
the mailing lists and include both your entire XF86Config-4 file as
well as all of the output from the X server.
