Hello,
I'm running XFree86 on a Compaq Presario 700 something with an S3
TwisterK, lspci says 5333:8d02 (rev 01). There are two XFree86-
related issues, one with MTRRs, one with XVideo.
XFree86 4.1.0 (Debian binary) properly sets up a 16 MB write-combining
range at 0xF0000000. With almost-current CVS, however, the server
decides for some reason that the framebuffer has size 0xEF0000, and
subsequently proceeds into splitting the WC range into hundreds of
areas of 64 KB each; with 8 MTRRs, this doesn't get us far.
I haven't tried stock 4.2.0.
As to XVideo: the server exports the extension, xvinfo reports a
single port with 6 reasonable-looking image formats (under 4.1.0, it's
7 image formats, the last one of which is a dummy, but that's fixed in
current CVS).
Xine initialises, happily opens the XVideo port, and then the machine
locks solid. I haven't tried logging in through the network, but the
keyboard is completely dead, not even the magic SysRq key works.
This happens with both Debian's 4.1.0 and current CVS, both with ACPI
and non-ACPI kernels. I'll be happy to provide you with any extra
data you may need, as well as try any patches you may have against
current CVS (but not against earlier versions, as I don't have a
tree).

P.S. Offtopic. There are other issues with the machine. It has no
APM, but Linux's ACPI sorta works. It has a buggy VIA chipset
(workaround in kernel 2.4.18). Sound doesn't work (both VIA and Alan
Cox are aware of the problem). Furthermore it gets hot as hell, even
when idle, although ACPI properly transitions the CPU to C1 and C2
(but for some reason not to C3 -- bus-mastering issues?). The modem
(Conexant HSF) absolutely sucks (software-only thing with a buggy
Linux driver, nothing near Lucent's controllerless but DSP-equipped
chipset), the network (8139) is cheap but okay for my type of usage.
On the other hand, it is wonderfully fast (if you tune IDE right,
which happens automatically with the right kernel options under
2.4.18), relatively inexpensive, and basically works. And it was in
stock at the local Trotskyist cooperative the day when my old machine
committed suicide for the second time in two months.
Regards,
Juliusz
