[Xpert]fbdev in 24 bpp

can fbdev handle 24 bits per pixel color?

I noticed that in xc/programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/drivers/fbdev/fbdev.c,
when it calls xf86SetDepthBpp() it passes in 0 for the depth24flags. does
this mean it is a bad idea to try to force it into a 24bpp mode?
