Hi,

I've just moved to a new RedHat 7.2 installation.

    $ rpm -q XFree86
    XFree86-4.1.0-15

In the past I've just used xmodmap to get the keyboard how I want
whatever the starting point is. This time, I thought I'd like to do it
`properly'.

It's a x86 PC with an IBM keyboard from an RS/6000 workstation -- I like
the keyboard.

My /etc/X11/XF86Config now has these lines.

     XkbRules "xfree86"
     XkbModel "rs6k-101"
     XkbLayout "us_intl"
     #XkbVariant "nodeadkeys"
     #XkbOptions ""

I found things improved on changing XkbModel to rs6k-101 but it still
isn't quite right, e.g. the hash/tilde key near Return gives `\|'
instead of `#~'.

I've failed to find any documentation on these settings and in
particular what the theory behind them is. Can anyone point me at a
document or source file that will give me the grounding needed to fix
this in the `right way'.

Cheers,

Ralph.
