Guys,
I have tried everything! I have completely reloaded (rpm -Uvh --force)
all of the XFree... and X11... packages. I have tried msec 2, msec3,
etc.. and nothing works. I've tried XFdrake --expert, xf86config, etc..
all relevant monitors/resolutions/color depths and still no joy in
either X4.2 or 3.3.6.

AMD k6-2/233 w/64meg, VX pro chipset
#9 I128 video w/4meg
NEC Accusync 95F monitor
Software:
Mandrake 8.2
X4.2 bombs with an Addscreen/Screen Init on device 0
Specifically:
The XFree86.0.log reveals the following just before it bombs in X4.2:

Fatal server error:
AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0
Preinit seems to go fine, but it bombs when it goes to map memory?? I
don't have a clue why. I can boot into LM7.2 and hit startx and
everything is great???
I recall seeing somewhere the "(---) I128(0): Screeninit start" being
executed before the (--) I128(0): Mapping memory command. There doesn't
seem to be a "Screeninit start" being done anywhere in the 4.2 startup.
What can I check? What can I do? (Yeh, I know -- new Video card, but
that would mean defeat!)
X3.3.6 bombs with a "no screens found" error, or worse yet, it hardlocks
the system.
On Mandrake 7.2 everything works great! (Same system, same hardware)
Yes, I md5sumed all my ISO before burning -- they passed.
Would it work if I rmp -e all of the X4.2 and X3.3.6 packages and then
loaded via rpm -Uvh all of the X packages from the LM 7.2 distro?
Crazy thought, but I'm desperate!!! Is there anyone out there that has a
#9 Imagine 128 video working under LM 8.2, X4.2 or X3.3.6? I can't be
the only one ;-(
I even re-downloaded, re-checked the md5's, re-burned and re-installed
just to see if that helps?? Like I said, I'm
desperate.........................
I even configed the 3.3.6 server and copied my XF86Config from my
Mandrake 7.2 install -- no joy..
Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
