I've already fixed Render so that it doesn't consume the entire colormap; 
the appropriate fix is to make that number configurable.  Render is useful 
even on pseudo-color screens as it permits applications to efficiently draw 
text using client-side fonts.

I stronglye believe that Render is a necessary part of a modern X server; 
those without it should be considered "broken".
