I can confirm this does *NOT* happen in the 4.2.0 release tree. Also, the current CVS snapshot of XFree86 works fine on my machine @ work but not this system:
Machine At work: Pentium III 1.0Ghz, PS/2 Mouse with imPS/2 enabled. Home Machine: Athlon MP 2000+ 1.7Ghz, PS/2 Mouse with imPS/2 enabled.
