Hello !

I'm using XFree 4.2 and kernel 2.2.18 on an Athlon 700MHz (Slot A),
ASUS K7M Mainboard. My graphic card is a ATI Rage 128 RF (AGP), Chip ID 0x5246.

Often when I use picture editors (e.g. gimp 1.2) and scroll the image up/down with
the vertical scrollbar I got an error message in the xfree log and the computer
seems to hang for 1 - 2 seconds. (The image contents, scrollbar and window frame
are not updated correctly on the screen.) The following error messages appears:

(EE) R128(0): FIFO timed out, resetting engine...
or
(EE) R128(0): Idle timed out, resetting engine...

The same messages appear, if I use the gatos ati.2 driver generated from
CVS code date Mai 17. 2002.

Also I try this with my second linux system: LFS system with a 2.4.18 kernel,
XFree 4.2 on the same hardware. With this installation the computer hangs if I
got this error and I must use the reset button.

Can you give me any hint to solve this problem ?

Thanks
Burkhard Arenfeld
