I've no objection to someone doing the work.

However, I'd hope that 4.2 will be released fairly soon (next 3 months)
which might be too tight for adding a significant new feature to
every driver.

I'm also uneasy about implementing half of an extension;
at the least we need to ensure that the extension API allows
applications to cope with servers which can resize but not rotate or 
depth.
