This is a feature called performance boxes which is useful to driver
developers.

Right, the r200 branch in DRI CVS is a development branch. :) You should
report problems with the 3D driver to the dri-devel list.

If you don't want to beta test developmental drivers, you could try the
ATI FireGL drivers.
