Yes, the patch was for "xv." I submitted it to the xv folks and also copied
this list. I copied this list because the problem could bite other people
before the xv patch gets incorporated, especially since that last xv release
was nearly a decade ago, and the issue was discussed in this list.
It is a bit confusing that this is both "xv" X thing and "xv" the application
program, and I should have clarified that.
