Hi,

I have some problems with my Matrox Mystique while using XFree86
version 4.0 and higher.

What is wrong:
The X-server freezes the whole system, when moving windows on the
screen or while scrolling the contents of a window. It doesn't happen
instantly, but after about 20 minutes to several hours of work the system
freezes and You have to reboot it somehow, I will also check if I can
kill -9 XFree86 with my joypad. It might work.

Where does this happen:
It happens on XFree86 starting from version 4.0. I am not sure
about the pre-releases of 4.0. I simply forgot, sorry.
Last working XFree86 version is 3.3.6 on Debian. Last tested
version is 4.2.0 on FreeBSD 4.6.
I am using Matrox MGA driver for the sg-chipsets with my
Matrox Mystique, RAMDAC 170MHz, 4MB RAM.
I have tried many window managers and they all give me the same
effect, so it's NOT window-manager related. Just an info, because
it looks like a window manager problem.
The OSes found affected are Linux (Debian) and FreeBSD.
Not affected is Cygwin XFree86, but I doubt it uses MGA
drivers.
I can post my startup logs here, if You are interested.

Symptoms:
There are no signs of problems in the functionality before the
system freezes. After the server freezes, the screen keeps it's
last picture and doesn't react to keyboard and mouse clicks.
It reacts to mouse movements only.
Just a short info: I can remember that earlier versions of
XFree86-4 produced stripes on the screen while moving
a window which disappeared after the window was placed.
Addressing problems? Well, I don't want to make any
speculations.

If there are any other questions, please post them on
Xpert and I will instantly answer them, thank You.

Martin
