Definitely not a rewrite, but several very large changes have been made
over the past few months to better handle flat panels and add support
for newer chips.  And, more are on their way.

Exactly.  Please be patient -- I am working on the driver and will check
in my latest changes when they are ready.  Also, ATI has sent a medium-
sized patch, which I will integrate after I fix the bugs that I know
about (including the line bug).

I'll post here when my changes have been checked in to ask for feedback.
